Better never stops.
Spain ..and England out of the World Cup. . Surprising?
Not really.
When you are at the top of your game you’re more vulnerable than ever.
The expectation is greater, the pressure is on and the competition to beat you is breathing down your neck.
And I’m not just talking about football.
The classic mistake that people make – in business, in sport, in music and in entertainment – is that when they are doing well,
they think they are ‘ safe’.
The ‘No need to try harder, because we are the best’, attitude is common and oh so dangerous.
‘Course any fool knows that the reason you’re the best is because you worked your butt off to get there – so why on earth would you stop?! Yeah Crazy.
You’re only the best when you constantly work hard at maintaining that edge. I’m talking ‘play like you’re pants are on fire‘ kind of hard.
Physically. Emotionally. And Mentally.
The ‘underdogs’ can swoop in under the radar. They can be daring, take risks, and usually do.
Arguably, they can afford to get it wrong.
The best out there need to take the same approach , shame they (usually) don’t .
It’s better to keep the pieces than have to pick them up all over again.
If you want to remain the best (Spain et al) get off your pedestal, you’re only as good as your last game.
So:
– Play like you mean it
– Take some risks
– Pick up your pace.(love watching Ghana..) ‘Steady’ doesn’t win.
– Consider losing as not an option
– Support and fight for your team- it’s not about glory just for you!
– Get your attitude and mentality right . You’re only the best when you work at it. Prove it with every performance.
And remember this :
Better .Never .Stops.
A lesson learned. Hopefully.
