Today is ‘Blue Monday’.
Don’t ask me why, I have no idea where it came from or even who invented it.
But I do know this – plenty of people are talking about it, and that little ‘Blue Monday’ phrase has had a fair bit of press coverage.
And I know I’m not helping, but bear with me….
I’m only drawing your attention to this – to warn you of a problem that’s far, far worse than Blue Monday (or any other Blue day for that matter).
The problem is this:
– The more we talk about, listen to , read about (sorry folks) Blue flippin’ Monday – the more we focus on what we have to be Blue about!!
I bet, before you even knew about it, you were thinking about a normal Monday ahead – and I accept for some of you it’s not your favourite day of the week .
But now of course, all we can think about is – well all the misery that’s attached to the day. And now we have a list!
1. It’s Monday (aaargghhh!)
2. It’s the start of another week
3. It’s the end of the weekend
4. It’s cold…I think I have the flu coming on..
5. It’s way past Christmas
6. It’s nowhere near payday
7. I’m in the same old job
….shall I go on?
It’s easy isn’t it? Falling into the trap of being persuaded to think negatively.
Anyone can have a bad day. But we don’t have to force it upon ourselves do we?
So I’m gonna be controversial and say ‘Bollocks to Blue Monday’. There, it’s gone.
And I have plenty of reasons to think that today – and any other day – is a good day.
Here’s my alternative 7:
1. It’s Monday. An chance to start the week afresh.
2. It’s half way through Jan – I still have 2 weeks left to finish my goals for Jan.
3. It’s cold, and crisp outside – just like January should be. A chance to wrap up in my new(or old) coat .
4. The healthy eating is going well/or not so well – so I’ll start again!
5. It’s still the start of the year – what do I want to look forward to and achieve?
6. I’m healthy (what’s a sniffle?)
7. If I don’t like my job or situation. I .can. change .it. Nothing is cast in stone!!
Yeah, you can stick your Blue Monday , it’s not welcome here.
Hello New Day – whoever you are. I’m gonna make the most of you.
Now, If any of that sounds like positive ‘drivel’, then thank you very much (I’m taking it as a compliment)!
I’d much rather have that than negative crap that weighs me down and ruins my day.
So YOU CHOOSE : whatever you ‘label’ your day with – becomes your mood, behaviour, actions and results.
Pretty much.
Be careful what you fill your head with.
It might sound like common sense….
….But common sense is not that common any more!
