If I had a £1 for every time someone said to me:
‘..but Amana, that’ll never happen..’ (or stuff like that) I’d be well rich.
I get it though. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that one day, we’d reach a position we’ve dreamed of being in – it just seems like a ridiculous thought.
But not to me.
I’m staggered by how many talented people I coach who can’t see just how capable they are. They can’t see that they absolutely do have what it takes. And they make assumptions about what they believe is going to happen in the future.
I’ve coached, then witnessed footballers snapped up by premiership teams, golfers win majors, and recording artists signed and ending up on global tours.
And there are many others who dream of being a manager at work, or of becoming a director, or of being noticed for doing an outstanding job.
I still hear the same things, regardless of who it is.
So, if you’re reading this and you have ambition, here are a few of my tips:
– You are far more capable than you think you are
– Even if you believe you already do a great job, look for ways to become even better. Don’t get cocky.
– When things are not going your way, don’t give up – there are lessons for you to learn
– Don’t compare yourself to others; you’re not them
– Be honest about your own performance, and take any criticism with appreciation (yes, I did just say that)
– Don’t whinge about not being noticed – give people more reasons to want to notice you
– Find your Ingredient ‘X’, that ‘something’ about you that sets you apart
– Oh, and that ‘one day’ that you think will never come, is just around the corner… But only when you’re ready for it.
Trust me.
