So Halloween is just around the corner and our attention turns to demons, witches and spooky goings on.
For me, the scary stuff is spiders – always has been.
You wouldn’t think that something so small in comparison to us could have such a huge effect.
But it does.
Of course I’ve never been bit by one – or had an argument with one. Because our relationship doesn’t get that far.
I’ve legged it, screaming by then. (I have to, they have 8 legs, I only have 2 – they’re faster).
Isn’t it funny what gives us the creeps? You might laugh at my spider fear but everyone has something that makes them shudder.
But here’s the real shocker.
There is something far far scarier than anything I’ve mentioned here so far.
Something that every single person has – or has had – a fear of.
I’m talking about life its self. Our own Life.
Here’s some specific examples of the fears I hear about when coaching:
- Fear of failure
- Fear of success
- Fear of standing out
- Fear of not standing out
- Fear of not being good enough (or clever/or slim/or attractive enough)
- Fear of not achieving
- Fear of change
- Fear of not finding love
- Fear of illness
- Fear of ageing
- Fear of other peoples’ opinion
- Fear of the boss
- Fear of losing your job
…..I won’t go on any further, because there are tons more. But you get my drift, right?
There is nothing out there any scarier than what we have to face in life.
But what…or who.. puts the fear in our minds in the first place?
WE DO.
We are the biggest single cause of pain and anguish to ourselves. And it starts with our thought process.
Every time we think about one of our fears, we have a choice (here’s the TRICK):
1. Disregard it, or turn it around into positive action
OR
2. Keep thinking about it. Which in turn darkens our mood, and then affects our behaviour. It’s not good.
So why don’t we all just do number 1, and live happily ever after?
Because you and I know its not that easy to do. It takes focus, practice and discipline.
It’s about you managing you…instead of living in fear of you.
Want the good news though? It’s entirely possible. You just have to make the choice, and go for it – then my friends, you can face ALL the ‘horrors’ in the world (…and THAT’S the TREAT).
Happy Halloween?
Happy days.
Amana,
Now, I’M off to face the spiders……
