Mastering ‘The Masters’….it’s not about golf.

Not sure about the name ‘Bubba’….I meanis that for real? (says she, with an equally funny name….Ok, you can laugh..).

Congratulations to Bubba Watson. A well deserved victory at The Masters 2014.

He’s been there before of course, and some say that makes it easier.

I tend to DISAGREE . And so would Jordan Spieth. And countless others who have been trying for years.

It’s not really a question of skill at this level – if you don’t have it, you wouldn’t be there. Forget the ‘mechanics’ – It’s very much about what’s going on in your head – something that Jack Nicklaus talked about during the tournament. And I have to agree.

That was evident in the very telling ‘after game’ interviews – the best golfers admitted where they went wrong, were honest about how they could have been better and took full responsibility for their results.

Others didn’t. They could only manage excuses. None of them were their fault of course.

(When you fail to take responsibility,  you’ll fail in becoming a real champion.)

Mastering The Masters is about control: Emotional, Physical, Mental.

Bubba Watson played this out perfectly.

Until the final couple of holes of course.…and, after being under immense pressure, that’s when his emotions could be held in no more, and we saw them spill over.

And we loved him even more for it.

He displayed a smashing balance of being professional, but being humble and real at the same time.

I’d say that was an example to lead by.

Well done Bubba, not just a top class demo for Jordan (what a star though?!) – but for all golfers. Young and old, new to the game of golf, or experienced.

…And there are lessons here for ALL of us…..if you want to be a winner of some kind, that is.
