Ingredient X – The Power Of You

I love the BBC’s Great British Bake off (GBBO), along with what feels like most of the nation.

But why do we love it?

Is it the skill and experience of Mary Berry, or is it the cheek and ‘cockiness’ of Paul Hollywood?

But what about the sheer fun that Mel and Sue bring?

And then there are the bakers themselves. Everyone offers something different, splitting opinions up and down the land in the process.

There’s no denying that watching the baking creations being produced is both entertaining and mouth watering (it can’t just be me who drools..can it ?) but of course this is a competition to see who is the best baking talent in the whole of the UK.

Or is it?

Just the achievement of getting into the tent must mean you have baking talent. That’s a given.

But when the bakers are in there, surely we the viewers are at the mercy of the producers of the show – after all, we don’t know what bits are edited out vs. what bits are kept in.

So then we end up ‘judging’ only on the snapshot of what we see. And, more importantly, who we see.

Which, by the way, is exactly how we judge people every day .

The comments on social media whilst this programme has been showing say it all. We talk about who our favourite  is. Who we like.

And who we don’t mind saying goodbye to.

We comment on what words come out of each bakers mouth, we comment on their behaviour, we comment on their clothes and hair. …and we even comment on the shade of their lipstick (yes I am talking about Candice)!

And that is nothing to do with the baking.

The Great British Bake Off then, for all we love it – is just another talent show (albeit a brilliant one) , like so many others.

And like the others – the bottom line is that we are ‘voting’ for who we like. And, shocker – I’m including in that ‘we’,  Mary and Paul.

We’re voting for who has that Ingredient X.

Ingredient X is that unique thing that draws you to someone – it makes them stand out, although not necessarily in a super confident – ‘I’m a star – look at me ‘- kind of way. Just remember last years winner Nadiya Hussain- who everyone loves, and who is wonderfully humble and down to earth.

Ingredient X is your secret ingredient which, when combined with a few of your best qualities, makes for a powerful, unbeatable combination.

Boom! That’s a recipe for something very special.

As I have spent most of my life analysing people, and  helping them identify their own Ingredient X, I have some good news and bad news for you.

The good news? Everyone has Ingredient X

The bad news?   Most people don’t know what theirs is (or they shy away from it) and so spend their life not being who they really are .

And that is a waste.

You might be fearful of finding out what yours is, after all – knowing it and using it could take you to places you never dreamed you could get to.

That’s scary, but in a wonderful way.

You might also be fearful because to find yours could mean disappointing a few people who want you to stay exactly as you are now. The person they want you to be.

That’s just scary.

Now, I’m of the opinion that you would want to make the very best of your life, and live it without having regrets. So why wouldn’t you want to understand more about you, and find your very own Ingredient X?

And that is why you’ll want to read my book: The Power of Ingredient X.

It’s coming soon.

Until then, watch closely at the GBBO (pick any episode).  In fact watch closely in everyday life at the people you see or come into contact with.

Some people clearly do display their very own Ingredient X.

Could one of those people be you?
