How to win in an impossible game.

Some people can’t win, even when they do win.

Those of you who know me will have heard me talk about Ange Postecoglou (Manager of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club ) on many occasions – because I’ve always believed in him as a manager.

– He is calm headed.
– He sticks to his principles (despite the backlash).
– He is fully behind his team.
– He stands up for himself when criticised.
– He has (now) delivered what he said he would – a win in his 2nd year.

Is he the best football manager out there?

I know you’ll have your view and I’m not here for an argument – I’d rather have that chat face-to-face 😁 .

But whatever team you support and whichever manager you rate, you’ve GOT to agree that this is no easy job. Come on, let’s be real.

Because like every manager/leader out there, your ‘worth’ is measured by the results you achieve. Sometimes the measure is a trophy, sometimes it’s a number, or a ranking and sometimes it’s about the team you build.

Not everyone can get all of these things right as fast as we all want it to happen.

So you have to believe that the manager is right for you – measured on behaviour, progress and results.

How well do you do on all 3 counts?
When I’m coaching in sport, ballsy (‘scuse the pun) honesty is needed.

Anyway, I could talk ALL day about Ange – and other football managers, because there’s learning for all of us here.

Instead, I’ll gloat while I can, and say:

‘Well Done Ange, mate. You did it’ Europa League winners, 2025 👏

You’ve won, in a place where it’s almost impossible to win – achieving success as a football manager.

Never give up, and ignore the doubters.
