Ready to give up….
When you’re going through a difficult time , it’s hard to know who you can rely on. And who you can trust.
All the ‘friends’ and supportive colleagues you thought you had, have all disappeared.
It’s not (usually) intentional.
Some of them are keeping their heads down and getting on with their own jobs , others don’t know what to say to you, so they keep their distance.
It’s all a bit bewildering, after all you put your life and soul into that company, and for many years you worked your socks off didn’t you?
And then one day it comes to an end. Just like that.
That’s when you need support the most. But where is it?
It’s an eye opener to see who actually does rally around, helping in whatever way they can or giving you the encouragement to move on.
After all, it’s going to happen to them one day, that’s just life – and business.
Don’t hold a grudge (I know, you have plenty of reasons to feel angry) because when you do, the only person who will feel the hurt, is YOU.
Instead, prepare yourself for the next part of your life or career.
It’s going to get better.
You can start right now by being positive and kind to everyone you come into contact with (yes, even the ones you’d rather throw a brick at) .
Your behaviour sets your standards, and getting this right, gets you your next job.
So set them high, or you could look negative, bitter – and, well, just like some of the people you are leaving behind. You’re better than that.
You’ll know who really cares, because when the announcement has been made and you’re no longer ‘officially’ there, the people you can count on are still with you. Mentally, emotionally and sometimes physically.
Even when you’re quiet.
Remember that, and be the person who is still around when someone needs you.
It matters.
