Deadline Day Dangers

It’s ‘deadline day’ in the world of football.

And with that, there’s potential dangers ahead….

And while we hold our breath and wait to see who is going where …and for how much..I can’t help wondering this:

How does the ‘player’ feel?

(You may well think ‘who cares…he is getting well paid!’. But you will be bothered if your team isn’t playing well).

Yes he could be rubbing his hands with glee at the thought of all that money coming his way.

He could be overcome with excitement to be ‘in demand’ by a brilliant club.

And who doesn’t want to move up a gear, and be in the spotlight – cheered on by thousands of new fans?

But what if it’s none of the above?

Just what if:

– His family is settled where they are, and they don’t want to leave their town and home?

– How do you think this affects the player (not to mention his performance)?

– He has concerns about getting on well with his new team mates. And his Manager….

– What if, the feeling of not being wanted by your existing club makes you feel isolated and low?

– And what if…no one comes in for you?

The dangers of deadline day are often overlooked.  Followed very swiftly by a ‘disappointing performance’ coming from the player.

Deadline day , and all that big money changing hands, isn’t always good news in the world of football. Especially for the players.

Money, often doesn’t bring you what you want or need.

So, MANAGERS – give this more than just a thought. Take some action if you want your players to give you the performance you are looking  for.

Coaching ain’t just about football techniques. It’s about getting the best out of your people.

But you know that don’t you…?.
