Having just come back from the heat of the Med…and into the heat of the UK, it got me thinking about how we handle being ‘hot under the collar’ in different ways.
I’m not talking about the ‘temperature’ kind of heat (although you’ll be surprised how people flare up when it’s hot!) – more the ‘living under pressure’ kind .
Everyone wants to think they can handle themselves in a tough environment….but when faced with it, well – let’s just say its not that easy.
Here’s what can happen:
– We become frustrated when things don’t go right or well, and lose patience
– We look for escape routes …sometimes in the form of blaming others
– We raise our voices, and sometimes say stuff we wouldn’t normally say
– Some people become withdrawn…others explode
– We struggle to rationalize, or see things from anyone’s point of view…except our own
– We focus only on the issue, not necessarily the solution. And we struggle to see the bigger picture
–We often lose sight of our strengths, making our weaknesses more visible to others. (then we look a pratt!)
–We fail to do the one thing, that will make all the difference:
Looking at ourselves, our attitude and our behaviour first.
Because funnily enough, we cause our own heat much more than others do. You know me – harsh – but true!
So, in the heat of the moment (and sometimes the heat of the sun) – before you start reacting to what’s happening around you, react to what’s happening inside of you.
That’s a message for all of us to remember, and someones’ gotta say it!
Enjoy the heat,
Amana
