I watched with admiration at the thousands of runners who took part in the London Marathon 2015.
And it got me thinking.
Running the marathon, is like ‘living’ life. Kind of.
We all start at the same place. Full of hope for the future, and excited about what lies ahead.
We’re ALL different ages, shapes, sizes… and nationalities.
But that doesn’t matter. We’re in the race together.
Achievement is REAL. Everyone has good intentions.
Along the way, the support is immense. When you feel like falling, there is someone there to pick you up.
Probably someone you don’t even know. But today, you do.
Along the way, there are cheers of support and encouragement from well wishers we have never met in our lives.
And they are genuine.
And we need it. Because before too long, we hit the part(s) when it all becomes TOO MUCH and we are ready to give up on our dream.
Many do. And walk away.
But if you dig deep and if you LISTEN to the support – you find the strength to go that bit further.
The pace you run/jog/walk…crawl at, is irrelevant. Crossing that finish line is all that matters.
And as you get closer to that point – the support – for you – becomes greater than you’ve ever known before .
You see, in life, the ‘doubters’ who don’t believe you’ll ever make it,get quieter as time goes by. Funny that isn’t it?
And then, they often become your supporter when it looks like you are about to prove them (and, yeah, yourself!) wrong.
Getting out of our ‘comfort zones’ forces us to do different things, and do things differently.
Life is jam packed full of hurdles. And opportunities. Be careful which ones you spend the most time on.
And when you want to ‘succeed’ as badly as you want to breathe…you will find a way.
For everyone taking part in the London Marathon, I salute you.
You are winners in life , for all that you have achieved – for yourself, and for people and charities around the world, less fortunate than us.
It’s a humbling experience to see so many people. pulling together, helping each other along – regardless of who they are.
It’s also a reminder that actually, we all could do that. Every day.
Life – our life – is a marathon.
Let’s start helping each other to cross the line.
